Andrea Van Pelt

Pianist coach, Canada

Canadian pianist Andrea Van Pelt is dedicated to creating and honouring beauty through music, storytelling, and poetry.  She is an alumnus of the Yulanda M. Faris Young Artist Program at Vancouver Opera, and holds master’s degrees from McGill University and the University of Toronto in performance and collaborative piano.

Her enthusiasm and hard work have led her to explore several layers of the music industry and have inspired excellence in all her projects. In 2020–2021, she is the rehearsal pianist on Riders to the Sea and Le flambeau de la nuit (I Musici and Opéra de Montréal). In 2019–2020, she worked as assistant répétiteur on productions of La Traviata, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, and as music director and pianist on The Garden of Alice (Vancouver Opera). For the past six years, she has been freelancing as a coach and assistant teacher both privately and at the University of Toronto. She discovered her passion for curating musical curiosity during her time as director of the music department at Oak Hill Academy in Hamilton. Designing music curricula provided the conditions for her to weave her artistic philosophy into joyful music making, sparking interest and fostering a lasting relationship between students and the arts.

Her own love of vocal music was cultivated and furthered during her time at the Franz-Schubert-Institut in Austria, where the opportunity to embrace poetry and the Austrian landscape continues to support her narrative abilities. She furthered her training at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, the Toronto Summer Music Festival, the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, the Accademia Europea dell’Opera, and Opera NUOVA.

Former member of the Atelier lyrique de l'Opéra de Montréal (2021)
