Opera: an agent for social change

In 2018, the Opéra de Montréal implemented its Opera Impact Program to raise awareness of opera among all audiences. This program includes a variety of cultural activities in the community or in schools—activities that are made possible thanks to a team of dedicated artist-mediators and collaborators. The program goal: to introduce opera to a wide audience and raise awareness of the art form, so that it can serve as an agent for social change and a key pedagogical tool.

PROJETS INCLUSIFS: MODE D'EMPLOI VIDEOS

For several years now, the Opéra de Montréal has held inclusive community activities that aim to introduce opera to underrepresented or neglected audiences. This has led to several cooperative opera creation projects, including ET at the Opera for mental health, in collaboration with the Espace Transition program (CHU Sainte-Justine) and La Gang à Rambrou for the intellectually disabled.

Pierre Vachon, our Outreach and Education Director, in collaboration with the Conseil des arts de Montréal, has created four videos explaining the main steps involved in developing a project with a non-artistic partner and an underrepresented group.
