Valérie Walker

Soprano, Canada

NOriginally from Ottawa, Valérie Walker has been living in Montreal for the past 30 years, working as a music therapist and as a freelance professional singer (chorister and soloist for the OSM and Vox Luminosa—a professional vocal ensemble of which she has been a member for the past 17 years—as well as other engagements). With a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano from the University of Ottawa, a Bachelor’s in Music Therapy from UQAM, and private vocal training, she has developed a strong foundational knowledge of various approaches for clienteles that benefit from alternative modes of communication and expression—in other words, music in all its forms. This expertise has led her to work with intellectually challenged adults, those on the autism spectrum (TSA) or under psychiatric care (Louis-H. Lafontaine Hospital), and as part of adult social integration programs in various school commissions over the past 28 years. She also established and led a children’s choir in an elementary school for 8 years. The versatile musician (soprano, pianist, trumpetist, chorusmaster, arranger/composer) also gives concerts with her trio (Trio à la carte), as well as with Manivox, an ensemble with which she creates various works for audiences of all ages. In the fall of 2021, she will have the pleasure of joining the ET at the Opera project as a vocal instructor for teens and young adults with mental health and psychiatric issues.
