Camila Montefusco

Mezzo-soprano, Brazil-Canada

Camila Montefusco is a storyteller at heart. Described as possessing “a voice of remarkable power and endurance” (Revue L’Opéra), the Brazilian-born mezzo-soprano returns for a second season with the Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal. This season, she is the understudy for the roles of Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Rychtarka (Jenůfa), and Carmen, and she will perform as a soloist in Handel’s Messiah with the Orchestre Classique de Montréal. She has, notably, performed the lead role of Offred (The Handmaid’s Tale), Madame Flora (The Medium), Annio (La Clemenza di Tito), Maman (L’enfant et les sortilèges), Goffredo (Rinaldo), Nada (Svadba), and La Zia Principessa (Suor Angelica). Passionate about underrepresented voices, Camila cofounded the Duo Obsidiana to champion composers who have been forgotten as well as Latin American composers. Whether on the opera stage or in recital, her work is rooted in the belief that art can connect, heal and inspire change in a world that craves it.

Camila Montefusco’s residency is made possible through artistic sponsorship by the Andrea Alacchi Family.
