Camila Montefusco
Mezzo-soprano, Brazil-Canada

Camila Montefusco is a storyteller at heart. Hailed for her “lush steady tone” (Stage Door), the Brazilian-born mezzo-soprano joins the Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal in the 2024–2025 season, making her mainstage debut as Maman in L’Enfant et les sortilèges, along with the roles of Madame Flora in Le Medium with the Orchestre classique de Montréal and Annio in La clemenza di Tito.
In past seasons, Montefusco was a resident artist with the Britten Pears Young Artist Programme, as well as with the Dolora Zajick Institute for Young Dramatic Voices, OperaFest Sewanee, Banff Center for Arts and Creativity, Pacific Opera Victoria, and Opera on the Avalon. Role highlights include Goffredo in Handel’s Rinaldo, Nada in Ana Sokolovic’s Svadba, La Zia Principessa in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, and Indiana Elliot in Thompson’s The Mother of Us All.
As a co-founder of the Obsidiana Duo, Camila is dedicated to the importance of Ibero-American musical culture and history. By bringing the music of historically overlooked composers to the stage, she strives to amplify the voices of communities that have long been silenced. In the 2023–2024 season, the duo completed their first national tour as part of the artistic roster of Prairie Debut, and in 2024–2025, they will tour their latest curation with Debut Atlantic.
Camila began her career in symphony orchestras as a professional violinist. While playing in the orchestra pit for opera productions, she fell in love with the voice and the art of storytelling. After receiving a Bachelor of Violin Performance degree from the University of São Paulo, she moved to Canada to study voice. Camila earned a Master of Music degree with honours from Western University and joined the Royal Conservatory of Music’s Rebanks Family Fellowship Program at the Glenn Gould School. Since starting her training in Canada, Camila has been awarded First Prize at the Maritsa Brookes Concerto Competition, Second Prize at the Galina Pisarenko Youth Competition, the Revelation Prize of the Linus Lerner International Vocal Competition, and an Encouragement Award from the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition.
Whether in opera or recital, Camila hopes to connect with people through art and inspire a world that hungers for change.
Member of the Atelier lyrique de l'Opéra de Montréal, Camila is generously sponsored by Famille Andrea Alacchi.
