CELL'OPERA!

WHICH IS MORE EXPRESSIVE: THE VOICE OR THE CELLO? THIS WORKSHOP STAGES A DUEL BETWEEN THE TWO!

This workshop is an introduction to the world of opera… through the cello, the piano, and the voice, of course! No preparation is required—the goal here is twofold: first and foremost, to surprise, by exposing children to new sounds and sensations… and to instruct, by providing food for thought about the workshop’s proposed activities.

Target audience: 10-14-year-olds (Elementary School – Cycle 3 and High School – Cycles 1 and 2)
Conditions: having already taken music classes at school (guitar, recorder, etc.)
Duration: 50 minutes per workshop
Maximum number of participants: 20 children per group (30 children in school format)
Language: English or French

DETAILS

The children first listen to a few opera excerpts. They are then encouraged to react to what they have just heard, as a means of raising their awareness of what an opera is and of the differences between our respective instruments. Finally, they are asked to recreate an opera scene themselves.

MÉLOM'ÂNE!
A PARTICIPATORY MUSICAL TALE IN WHICH MUSIC TRIUMPHS OVER BOREDOM!

Mélom’âne gives children their initial contact with song, awakening their curiosity about the singing voice. Puppets, theatre, and operatic voices come together to lead children into a colourful and poetic world. The young participants become players in the amusing and fantastic story of Luciano, a virtuoso donkey. Accompanied by a pianist, artists bring the characters to life using puppets with whom they interact.

Target audience: Preschool
Duration: 50 minutes per workshop
Maximum number of participants: 20 children per group (30 children in school format)
Language: French

DETAILS

Boredom takes the form of a strange character that progressively intrudes on the lives of some farm animals. Facing this threat, Luciano, a donkey barber who loves opera, assembles a choir with the other animals. By getting together to sing, the characters will make sure that music triumphs!
