GUY BÉLANGER (CAN) – Faust old

Son of well-known Quebec violinist and teacher Edwin Bélanger, Guy Bélanger is a singer, conductor, and chorus master. For the Société lyrique d’Aubigny, of which he is a founder, he sang the title role of Faust, as well as Nadir (The Pearl Fishers). In addition to taking part in many sacred music concerts in Quebec and in Europe, he was the Artistic and Musical Director of the Opéra de Québec. Company debut.

ANTOINE BÉLANGER (CAN) – Faust young

Son of Guy Bélanger, Antoine Bélanger is an alumnus of the Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal, where he appeared as Gonzalve (L’heure espagnole). At the Opéra de Montréal, he sang Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi), and appears as Rodolfo (La bohème) in May 2011. He was Alfredo (La traviata) at the Saskatoon Opera, and sang Prince Sou-Chong (Le pays du sourire) at the Opéra-Théâtre de Rimouski. He was also heard as a soloist in Gilles Vigneault’s La grande Messe with the Orchestre symphonique de Québec. Last company appearance: La bohème (2011).

MARY DUNLEAVY (USA) – Marguerite

Internationally acclaimed, Mary Dunleavy is recognized as one of the most credible interpreters of the role of Violetta (La traviata), which she has performed over 65 times in venues around the world: the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Grand Teatre de Liceu in Barcelona, the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Peking, Glimmerglass Opera, New York City Opera… Other recent engagements include Marguerite (Faust) in Birmingham, Christine Storch (Intermezzo) at the New York City Opera, Konstanze (The Abduction from the Seraglio) at the San Francisco Opera, Leïla (The Pearl Fishers) at the Seattle Opera, the Infanta (Der Zwerg) at the Los Angeles Opera, and Ophélie (Hamlet) at the Liceu in Barcelona. Last company appearance: Lucia di Lammermoor (2001).

ALEXANDER VINOGRADOV (RUSSIA) – Mephisto

While still a student at the Moscow Conservatory, he made his debut at the Bolshoi Theatre as Oroveso (Norma). He then went on to win a number of awards, including Operalia, and appeared on stages around the world: Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Royal Opera House-Covent Garden, Dresden Semperoper, Opéra National de Paris-Bastille, and Teatro Real Madrid, to name only a few. His most recent engagements include: Alvise (La Gioconda) in Palermo, Sarastro (The Magic Flute) in Berlin, Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) in Tokyo, Escamillo (Carmen) in Milan, and Méphistophélès (Faust) in Macerata. Company debut.

ETIENNE DUPUIS (CAN) – Valentin

A familiar face on the Opéra de Montréal stage, Etienne Dupuis has notably appeared here as Johnny Rockfort (Starmania), Silvio (Pagliacci), and Marcello (La bohème). With the Atelier lyrique, he won acclaim for his performance as John Sorel (The Consul). At the Opéra de Québec, he was recently heard as Enrico (Lucia di Lammermoor). He has also made a name for himself in Europe and in the rest of Canada, as is evinced by his most recent engagements: Valentin (Faust) in Tours, Silvio (Pagliacci) in Marseille, Figaro (The Barber of Seville) in Montpellier, and Marcello (La bohème) in Edmonton. Last company appearance: La bohème (2011).

EMMA PARKINSON (CAN) – Siébel

Emma Parkinson recently performed the role of Vera Boronel (The Consul) with the Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal, of which she is a member. She was previously heard as Stephano (Roméo et Juliette) at Opera NUOVA, and sang Berlioz’s cycle Les Nuits d’été with the McGill Sinfonietta. Other recent role debuts include Nerone (Agrippina), Mother Goose (The Rake’s Progress), and Dinah (Trouble in Tahiti) with Opera McGill, and Carmen (La Tragédie de Carmen) at the Banff Summer Arts Festival Opera as Theatre Program. OdM debut.

EMMANUEL PLASSON (FRANCE) – Conductor

Emmanuel Plasson shines on the concert stage, as at the opera and ballet. Very early in his career, he was engaged as Assistant Conductor at the Metropolitan Opera for Manon and Carmen. It was the start of a brilliant career that has taken him around the world to work with the finest orchestras, with a penchant for the French repertoire. Some highlights include: The Tales of Hoffmann in Hamburg and Cincinnati, Faust in Toulouse and Melbourne, Werther in Sydney, and L’étoile and The Pearl Fishers at the New York City Opera. In the Italian repertoire, he has conducted The Daughter of the Regiment in Hamburg and Lucia di Lammermoor in Boston. Company debut.

ALAIN GAUTHIER  (CAN) – Director

Alain Gauthier’s association with the Opéra de Montréal goes back many years: as stage director in residence with the Atelier lyrique in 1993, and as stage manager and assistant stage director until 2009. In 2005, his re-staging of Chabrier’s L’étoile at the company was an immense success, which he later repeated at the Cincinnati Opera, prompting the company to ask him back to direct Così fan tutte at its summer festival. Back in Montreal, he directed two verismo double-bills: Suor Angelica/Il tabarro, and Pagliacci/Schicchi. The latter won its creators an Opus Award (“Concert of the Year”) and will soon be re-staged in Calgary and in Cincinnati. Recently, he revisited L’étoile at the Austin Lyric Opera and the New York City Opera. Last company appearance: La bohème (2011).

OLIVIER LANDREVILLE  (CAN) – Sets

Olivier Landreville recently distinguished himself with productions in several Quebec theatres: Under Construction, Cheech, À présent, Le Paradis à la fin de vos jours, La Société des Loisirs, Gagarin Way, Cyber Jack, and Antarktikos. His design for the latter was featured at the Prague Quadrennial exhibition in 2003. Since 2001, a number of his designs have earned nominations at the Gala des Masques: Antarktikos, Cheech, Everybody’s WELLES pour tous, Tête première, Le Périmètre, and Coma Unplugged. On television, his work has notably been seen in 21, Il va y avoir du sport, Tout simplement Clodine, Flash, and on the Musimax network. He made his first foray into opera at the Opéra de Montréal: Pagliacci/Schicchi, followed with La bohème. Last company appearance: La bohème (2011).
