OPERA America in Montreal

OPERA America Conference – May 18 to 21, 2016

For the very first time, Montreal will be host to the international OPERA America conference, which is held in a different North American city each year, bringing together some 500 directors from opera companies in the United States, Canada, and Europe. In the last few years, the conference has notably been held in Washington, San Francisco, Vancouver, Philadelphia, Boston, Houston, and Los Angeles. Montreal will host the 2016 edition. “We are delighted to bring Opera Conference 2016 to Montreal—one of the most historic, beautiful, and dynamic cities in North America. This marks the first time in our 45-year history that the conference has travelled to the province of Quebec,” declared Marc A. Scorca, President and CEO of OPERA America. “As the largest annual gathering of opera professionals in North America, the conference provides the opportunity for people from every aspect of the opera industry to come together and shape the future of our art form.”

Scorca continued: “Our Canadian colleagues share our deep commitment to advancing the art form and increasing the value of opera and opera companies beyond the walls of the opera house. From new works to strong community partnerships, the Opéra de Montréal is at the forefront of reflecting global strategies through dynamic local programs.”

This conference will have an undeniable impact for Montreal, both on the economic and tourism fronts, and on a cultural level. “In May 2016, over 500 people will make their way to Montreal to take part in North America’s number one gathering for opera professionals. It will be an exceptional opportunity for these 500 cultural influencers to enjoy Montreal, along with all of our opera-related talents and institutions,” emphasized Yves Lalumière, President and CEO of Tourisme Montréal.
