2016/17 in words

The sound of AIDA’s Egyptian trumpets will kick off our 37th season, in a staging by François Racine, and with an international cast worthy of Verdi’s colossal work, featuring the classic and evocative sets of Claude Girard.

Next up will be two of the repertoire’s must-see works, with a focus on our homegrown artists. Mozart’s legendary DON GIOVANNI will feature the debut of brilliant young conductor Jordan de Souza, leading a dazzling Canadian cast. And then, an all-new production of a major French opera, Poulenc’s DIALOGUES DES CARMÉLITES, whose musical and theatrical intensity is as inspiring to creative artists as it is deeply moving to audiences. Our production will bring us the return of Serge Denoncourt, Jean-François Rivest, and the OSM.

A unique project will mark the 375th anniversary of our great city: the world premiere of ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL – THE OPERA, after the legendary The Wall, with words and music by Roger Waters; talented baritone Étienne Dupuis portrays a troubled rock star. This project will bring together a number of exceptional creative artists: Julien Bilodeau, who will compose this new operatic vision of the piece; Dominic Champagne, who will stage this landmark work of the 1980s; and Alain Trudel, who will lead the Orchestre Métropolitain.

Bringing our season to a close will be Puccini’s irresistible masterpiece, LA BOHÈME. This touching work will celebrate the company debuts of France Bellemare and LucRobert in the roles of Mimì and Rodolfo. Teaming up with maestro James Meena, director Alain Gauthier will lead the troupe of young artists through Paris’s legendary Latin Quarter.

From the great pyramids to an intimate attic... An operatic journey to share with you !

Enjoy our next season !
