ET at the opera is a co-creation project that takes place one evening per week, over a period of 26 weeks. Fifteen teen-agers and yound adults, suffering from mental health issues, become artisans and performers in a creative process resulting in a mini-opera inspired by a work presented at the Opéra de Montréal. They re-write the story and design the sets, costumes, and props, right here at Place des Arts, under the guidance of a team of professional artists. For the first season (2018-2019), they reinvented Rigoletto by Verdi; for the second season (2019-2020), they are working on The Magic Flute by Mozart.
The goal of this project is to have them experiment all facets of this multi-dimensional art form by working alongside professionals involved (opera singers, theatre artists, designers, a librettist, a composer, and musicians), and to produce their creation in a real LIVE performance before a public.
They perform their own creation LIVE in May at the Cinquième Salle at Place des Arts.
