A project carried out by 100 students from four Centre de services scolaire de Montréal schools

Every year since 2004, the coOpera project has given 100 students from four Centre de services scolaire de Montréal elementary schools (Jeanne-LeBer, De la Petite-Bourgogne, St-Zotique, and Notre-Dame-du-Perpétuel-Secours) the opportunity to take part in an extraordinary educational, artistic, and cultural experience.

The goal is to get the students to work together to produce a collective musical work inspired by an opera in the Opéra de Montréal’s current season. The students re-write the libretto from their own perspective, build the sets and props, sing, and dance.

Over the years, more than 50,000 spectators have applauded the coOpera works, and the project has been honoured with several awards and distinctions from both the educational and political spheres.
