Kamen Chanev made his opera debut in Sofia as the Duke (Rigoletto). Other early roles included Faust, Werther, Almaviva (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Lensky (Eugene Onegin), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), and others. He has recently been taking on a more dramatic repertoire, making role debuts as Cavaradossi (Tosca), Don José (Carmen), and Calaf (Turandot). Engagements in recent seasons include Manrico (Il trovatore) in Barcelona, Macduff (Macbeth) in Dublin, Don Carlos in Frankfurt, Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) in Valencia and Berlin, Cavaradossi in Budapest and Düsseldorf, Don José in Rimini, and Calaf in Warsaw. Last company appearance: Turandot (2014).
