Alberto Gazale - Simone

A winner of various international competitions, Alberto Gazale made his operatic debut in Un ballo in maschera in Parma in 1998. Since then, his career has taken him to many of the world’s major opera houses and orchestras with engagements in recent seasons including Nabucco at Teatro La Fenice in Venice and at the Wiener Staatsoper, Rodrigo (Don Carlo) at the Opernhaus in Zürich, Rigoletto at Teatro alla Scala, Tonio (I Pagliacci) at Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova, Macbeth at the Dallas Opera, and Simon Boccanegra at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, to name but a few. OdM debut.

Burak Bilgili - Fiesco

Since making his professional debut as Don Alfonso (Lucrezia Borgia) at Teatro alla Scala in the 2002-2003 season, Burak Bilgili has enjoyed a busy international schedule of engagements. Recent seasons have included Giorgio (I Puritani) at Teatro Massimo Palermo, the Villains (Les contes d'Hoffmann) at Virginia Opera, Padre Guardiano (La forza del destino) at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Don Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia) at the Canadian Opera Company, Nourabad (Les pêcheurs de perles) at Florida Grand Opera, Escamillo (Carmen) at Den Norske Oper, Banquo (Macbeth) at Vancouver Opera, and Timur (Turandot) at New York City Opera. OdM debut.

Hiromi Omura - Amelia

A winner of several awards, her engagements in recent seasons include: Cio-Cio-San (Madama Butterfly) in Amiens, at Opéra de Metz, and the Deutsch Oper Berlin; Héro (Béatrice et Bénédict) at the Opéra Comique; the Countess (The Marriage of Figaro) at Toyama in Japan; Micaëla (Carmen) at Tokyo National Opera; Liù (Turandot) at the New Year Opera Gala Concert in Tokyo; Nedda (I Pagliacci) at the New National Theatre Tokyo; and Silvia (Zanetto) at Opéra national de Lorraine. Engagements in 2009 include further appearances as Cio-Cio-San in Lausanne and at the Savonlinna Festival. Last OdM appearance: Madama Butterfly (2008).

Roberto De Biasio - Gabriele

Roberto de Biasio has appeared in a number of productions in Italy and elsewhere on tour in Europe and in Japan. Engagements in recent seasons have included Alfredo Germont (La traviata) and Cassio (Otello) at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Gabriele Adorno (Simon Boccanegra) at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Jacopo Foscari (I due Foscari) at Teatro Regio di Parma and Teatro Comunale in Modena, where he also recently appeared as Ismaele (Nabucco). Future engagements include Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) at Teatro Verdi di Trieste. OdM debut.

Daniel Sutin - Paolo

Daniel Sutin’s engagements in recent seasons have included Pâris (Roméo et Juliette) at the Metropolitan Opera, the One Eyed Brother (Die Frau ohne Schatten) at Lyric Opera of Chicago, Belcore (L’elisir d’amore) at San Antonio Opera, Germont (La traviata) at Reisopera in the Netherlands, Orest (Elektra) with the Canadian Opera Company, Conte di Luna (Il trovatore) at the Caramoor Festival, Sonora (La fanciulla del West) at the Royal Opera House-Covent Garden, Sharpless (Madama Butterfly) at Michigan Opera Theatre, among many others. Engagements in 2009-2010 include a return to the Metropolitan Opera for Hänsel und Gretel, and Rigoletto with Opera San Antonio and Nashville Opera. Last OdM appearance: Le Gala (2007).

Keri-Lynn Wilson - Conductor

Keri-Lynn Wilson started her career as an international guest conductor in 1998, dividing her career between symphony orchestras and opera productions. Orchestras she has conducted include: Montreal, San Francisco, Gewandhaus-Leipzig, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Iceland, Toronto, Ravinia, Houston, Seattle, Vancouver, New Jersey, Athens Kamarata, Hong Kong, and the Flemish Radio Orchestra. Recent opera productions include La traviata and Madama Butterfly at the Wiener Staatsoper, La rondine at Los Angeles Opera, Tosca at Opéra de Toulon and in Torre del Lago, Rigoletto at the Hong Kong Arts Festival, and Don Pasquale at Teatro Massimo in Palermo. Last OdM appearance: La fanciulla del West (2008).

Keri-Lynn Wilson - Director

Recent reviews have hailed stage director David Gately as “Endlessly clever and witty” (Calgary Herald), and for conveying a “certain honesty all too rare in big opera” (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel). Known for telling a story with his opera direction, recent productions have included Carmen at Austin Lyric Opera and Vancouver Opera, Angels in America and Lucia di Lammermoor at Fort Worth Opera, Rigoletto at Arizona Opera, and La Cenerentola at Atlanta Opera, to name but a few. Several companies throughout the U.S. and Canada (including Opéra de Montréal) have also mounted his hugely successful “wild west” production of Don Pasquale. Last OdM appearance: Lucia di Lammermoor (2009).

John Coyne - Sets

John Coyne is a Principal and the Director of Design in Theatre Projects Consultants’ (TPC) Connecticut office. In addition to being a scenery and costume designer, he is a licensed architect. His work includes theatre concept design, planning and programming theatre buildings, site assessment, and participation in feasibility studies. Since 1994 he has been designing stage sets for a number of theatre and opera companies including New York City Opera, San Francisco Opera, San Diego Opera, Washington Opera, The Joseph Papp Public Theatre, Dallas Theater Center, Center Stage, California Shakespeare Theatre, Shakespeare Theatre in D.C., the Old Globe, Goodspeed Musicals, Yale University, and The Juilliard School. OdM Debut.

Guy Simard - Lightning

Born and raised in Montreal, he has worked on over 500 productions — as lighting designer, theatre consultant, technical director, chief electrician, or stage manager. He is active in theatre – locally, nationally, and internationally — and architectural lighting design. He also has an impressive depth of experience in opera, having worked for the Opéra de Montréal, Vienna Volksoper, Opéra Monte Carlo, Opéra national du Rhin, Théâtre national de Belgique, Kentucky Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, and Michigan Opera Theatre, among many others. He is the recipient of numerous awards and distinctions for his innovative work as a lighting designer. A graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada, he has been teaching lighting design at the school for several years; he also teaches at various schools in Belgium and France. Last company appearance : Romeo and Juliet (2007).

75 minutes before the show... an introduction to the work by musicologist Pierre Vachon (Ph.D.), at the Piano Nobile, salle Wilfrid-Pelletier. Everything you need to know to enjoy the show, at 6:45 pm for evening performances; 12:45 pm for matinée performance.
