ANTHONY MICHAELS-MOORE (U.K.) – Rigoletto

A familiar figure with leading opera theatres around the world, Anthony Michaels-Moore has appeared at the Royal Opera House-Covent Garden, Teatro alla Scala, the Vienna State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Opéra national de Paris, and Deutsche Oper Berlin, among many others. Recent engagements include performances as Rigoletto, Scarpia (Tosca), Marcello (La bohème), Alfio (Cavalleria rusticana), Simon Boccanegra, Renato (Un ballo in maschera), Iago (Otello), Francesco Foscari (I due Foscari), Enrico (Lucia di Lammermoor), and Ford (Falstaff), among a wide range of others. His discography includes many recordings for BMG Classics, Deutsche Grammophon, Teldec Classics, Philips Classics, Chandos, and other labels. OdM debut.

DAVID POMEROY (CAN) – The Duke

Highlights in recent seasons include
Rodolfo (La bohème) and Pinkerton
(Madama Butterfly) at the Canadian Opera Company, Don Jose (Carmen) with Vancouver Opera, Stefano (Filumena) with Calgary Opera and in remounts in Banff, Ottawa, and Edmonton, the title role in
Les Contes d’Hoffmann with the Metropolitan Opera, Ruggero (La Rondine) with Michigan Opera Theatre, and Ladislov (The Two Widows) with Scottish Opera. He has been a soloist with all of the major orchestras in Canada, and his discography includes recordings on the Centrediscs label. Appearances in 2010-2011 include Alfredo (La traviata) with Vancouver Opera, and Don Jose (Carmen) with the Opera Company of Philadelphia. Last OdM appearance: Tosca (2010).

SARAH COBURN (U.S.A.) – Gilda

Praised as “blissfully sublime” by Opera News, Sarah Coburn captivates audiences with her “precision placement, mercury speed, and a gorgeous liquid gold tone, gilded by a thrilling top and bottom register” (The Globe and Mail). Highlights in recent seasons include Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia) with Los Angeles Opera and Florida Grand Opera, Gilda (Rigoletto) with Welsh National Opera, Vittoria (Tutti in maschera) at Wexford Festival Opera, Asteria (Tamerlano) with Washington National Opera, Princess
Yue-yang (The First Emperor) at the Metropolitan Opera, the title roles of Lakmé and Lucia di Lammermoor with Tulsa Opera, and Euridice (L’anima del filosofo) at the Handel & Haydn Society. Last OdM appearance: Gala (2005)

ERNESTO MORILLO (VENEZUELA) – Sparafucile

A native of Caracas, he began his musical studies in his home city, going on to further his training in Europe before making his European debut in Madrid in 1998 playing the
King in Aida. In recent seasons, he has appeared as the King (Aida) at Fondazione Arturo Toscanini in Parma, the Husband (Reigen) at Opéra National du Rhin and Opéra de Lausanne, Petrucci (Lucrezia Borgia) at the Opera de Oviedo, Timur (Turandot) in Como and Cremona, and Oroveso (Norma) at the Grange Park Opera, among others. OdM debut.

LAUREN SEGAL (CAN) – Maddalena

An alumna of the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio, Lauren Segal has been featured in a number of roles at the company, including Siébel (Faust), Aljeja (From the House of the Dead),
Popova (The Bear), Sonya (War and Peace), and Dorabella (Così fan tutte), among others. Other appearances throughout Canada include Sesto (La clemenza di Tito) at the Orford Arts Festival, Dorabella (Così fan tutte) at Pacific Opera Victoria, Suzuki (Madama Butterfly) at Manitoba Opera and Opera Hamilton, Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia) with Toronto Summer Music, Smeton (Anna Bolena) with Toronto’s Opera in Concert, and Cherubino  (Le nozze di Figaro) at The Banff Centre. OdM debut.

Tyrone Paterson (CAN) – Conductor

One of Canada’s most dynamic conductors, Tyrone Paterson has held the position of Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of Opera Lyra Ottawa since 1998. He also currently serves as an Advisor to Opera Hong Kong, and is the Music Advisor and Principal Conductor for Manitoba Opera. Maestro Paterson possesses extensive knowledge of the operatic repertory and has appeared with opera companies and orchestras throughout Canada, the United States, Asia, and Europe. Recent appearances include Turandot at Vancouver Opera, Otello at Opera Lyra Ottawa, Die Zauberflöte at the Beijing Music Festival, Rigoletto and La traviata for Opera Constanta in Romania, Don Giovanni and Turandot for Hawaii Opera Theater, and Aida for the Nashville Opera. OdM debut.

François Racine (CAN) – Director

Following his studies in theatre,
François Racine furthered his training at the Canadian Opera Company, going on to work for the company as an assistant stage director on some twenty operas. It was there that he became associated with the work of
Robert Lepage, through Lepage’s first productions for the opera stage: Bluebeard’s Castle and Erwartung. François Racine was then entrusted with revivals of these productions at the Edinburgh, Melbourne, and Hong Kong festivals, and in Canada and the U.S. He also directed other operas throughout Canada, in Los Angeles, Cincinnati, and Hong Kong. In 2001, he created and directed Tribute to Robert Lepage at the Harbourfront Festival in Toronto. Last OdM appearance: Bluebeard/Erwartung (2004).

Carl Toms (U.K.) – Sets and Costumes

Carl Toms was a set and costume designer whose 40-year career included stints in theatre, opera, ballet, and film. His theatre and opera work includes productions for the Glyndebourne Festival, the Old Vic, the National Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company, and the English Stage Company.
In 1970, he began to work in the American theatre, winning a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award in 1975 for his production design of Sherlock Holmes. His film work includes the cult classic One Million Years BC, starring Raquel Welch in a fur bikini of Toms’ design. He received the Order of the British Empire in 1969, and a Laurence Olivier Award for his design of The Provok’d Wife. OdM debut.

Anne-Catherine Simard-Deraspe (CAN) – Lighting

For theatre, she has designed the lighting for Les fourberies de Scapin
(Théâtre Denise-Pelletier), Le caillou de saturne (Théâtre du p’tit loup), Le père Léonidas and
La Réaction (Montreal Arts Interculturel),
Ce fou de Platonov (Théâtre Prospero),
Molière en hiver (Bain St-Michel), and
Théâtre sans animaux (Théâtre La Licorne). At the opera, she has designed the lighting for
Il tabarro/Suor Angelica (Opéra de Montréal) and was the assistant lighting designer for Thaïs (Palm Beach Opera). She is also Technical Director and Designer for I Musici de Montréal, and Technical Director at the Orford Arts Centre. Last OdM appearance: Tosca (2010).

75 minutes before the show… an introduction to the work by musicologist Pierre Vachon (Ph.D.), at the Piano Nobile, salle Wilfrid-Pelletier. Everything you need to know to enjoy the show, at 6:45 pm for evening performances; 12:45 pm for matinée performance.
