Clientele: 5th and 6th grades (elementary schools)
Each year since 2004, the coOpera project invites some 90 students from four Commission scolaire de Montréal elementary schools (Jeanne-LeBer, De la Petite-Bourgogne, St-Zotique, and Notre-Dame-du-Perpétuel-Secours), to take part in an extraordinary pedagogical, artistic, and cultural experience.
The goal is to work together to produce a collective creation inspired by a work being presented at the Opéra de Montréal during the current season. Over the seasons, the coOpera project has been applauded by over fifty thousand spectators, and has been honoured with numerous awards of recognition from both the educational and political milieus.
This great undertaking is made possible through the cooperative work of the Opéra de Montréal and the Atelier lyrique, BMO, Hydro-Québec, Commission scolaire de Montréal (CSDM), the City of Montréal, the Université de Montréal - Faculté de musique, the Université du Québec à Montréal, the Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport (through its Une école montréalaise pour tous programme), and the four above-mentioned schools.
It is with renewed pleasure that the Opéra de Montréal will take part in the coOpera project for an eleventh consecutive year.
