The recipient of the First Prize in the Centre français de promotion lyrique Competition, Oriol Tomas recently enjoyed great success with Henri Sauguet’s Les Caprices de Marianne at the Opéra de Reims. The opera will now go on a two-year tour—from 2014 to 2016—to 16 opera houses in France, including, among others, Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, Opéra du Grand Avignon, Opéra de Bordeaux, Opéra de Marseille, and Opéra de Nice.
Oriol Tomas directed productions at the Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal for six years. One of his own works, entitled Aleacanto, was nominated for a 2010-11 Prix Opus in the “Best Show for Young Audiences” category. He recently enjoyed great success with his debut in France, a new production of Don Giovanni at the Opéra de Tours and Opéra de Reims. Other recent highlights include Il trovatore and Die fledermaus at the Opéra de Montréal, Rodelinda at Pacific Opera Victoria, the Apéro à l'Opéra broadcast on ARTV, and his critically acclaimed vision of The Consul at the Atelier lyrique.
