In February 1996, Prof. Payne was named one of the Five Most Outstanding Black Graduates in the 175-year history of McGill University of Montreal by the Graduate Society and in April one of the 10 Best Orchestra/Choral Conductors in the history of the City of Montreal (the Gazette).

On May 22, 1996 He was appointed to the Order of Canada by His Excellency Romeo Leblanc, Governor General of Canada on behalf of Queen Elizabeth ll.

In January 2010, he received the Gala Soba Image Award for his contribution and devotion, for almost 30 years, to one of the most prestigious gospel choirs in North America: the Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir [FULL BIOGRAPY]

Dr. Payne has also been awarded the Queen’s Golden, and Diamond Jubilee Medals.

The Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir

The Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir under the direction of its founder Dr. Trevor W. Payne, has, in the past decade evolved into what is now considered to be one of the world's finest choirs. 

The Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir has performed for various heads of state, including Nelson Mandela during his 1989 visit to Canada, and Queen Elizabeth II. They have performed with, among others, Celine Dion, Foreigner, and New Kids on the Block, Michael Bolton and Ray Charles.

The Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir has released 14 Albums world-wide and their latest, a collaborative Christmas project with Dr. Oliver Jones, and Ranee Lee, was released in November 2010.
