Since his astonishing portrayal of Canio (Pagliacci) at Glimmerglass Opera, John Mac Master has been in demand at the highest international level. Engagements in recent seasons include Florestan (Fidelio) with the London Symphony Orchestra and with Valery Gergiev in his Rotterdam Festival; Calaf (Turandot) at Dresden’s Semperoper, his Metropolitan Opera début as Canio (which also included a “Live from the Met” radio broadcast, Tristan (Tristan und Isolde) for Welsh National Opera, the Metropolitan Opera and in concert with the Seoul Philharmonic; Verdi’s Requiem at the National Arts Center in Ottawa, Aegisth (Elektra) for Vancouver Opera and the Canadian Opera Company and Herodes (Salome) for the New Orleans Opera.
