Biography

Regarded by critics as a “sure bet” in today’s opera milieu, Alain Gauthier is continuing to make his mark in North American opera houses. His association with the Opéra de Montréal goes back many years. He applied his staging expertise to a number of important works at the company, including Suor Angelica, Il tabarro, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Pagliacci/Gianni Schicchi (Opus Award for Best Production of the year), La bohème, L’étoile (which he revisited at the Cincinnati Opera, the Austin Lyric Opera, and the New York City Opera), Faust, and Dead Man Walking. Engagements in 2013 include La vie parisienne at the Opéra de Québec and Così fan tutte with Jeunesses Musicales of Canada.
