Learning the profession
In their first year with the programme, most artists at the Atelier participate in Opéra de Montréal productions in roles suitable to their abilities. Whether as soloists or covers, they learn to evolve on stage while assimilating great works of the operatic repertoire. Each season, they expand their repertoire by two to five roles, in addition to the number of excerpts they perform in concert or in audition.
This season, the Atelier will continue several of its enriching partnerships. In March 2010, the Atelier will present its production of Nelligan (music by André Gagnon; libretto by Michel Tremblay) to mark the 20th anniversary of this opera. This will be its sixth collaboration with the National Theatre School of Canada and the Monument-National (Stage direction by Normand Chouinard). L’Atelier takes part in many initiatives to connect with new audiences and reach out to the Montreal community.
