Louis Dufort

Canada

As a composer, he first developed his style in the electroacoustic genre before soon opening up to mixed music and multimedia, thereby drawing the attention of an extremely wide range of Montreal organizations, such as the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ), the Ensemble contemporain de Montréal (ECM+), the Quasar saxophone quartet and the Bozzini Quartet, the Association pour la création et la recherche électroacoustiques du Québec (ACREQ), and Chants libres, for which he composed the music for the opera L’Archange in 2005 (remounted in 2008). At the same time, he has worked in the field of dance, principally with Compagnie Marie Chouinard, with which he has collaborated on a regular basis since 1996. At the international level, he received a mention at the Prix Ars Electronica (Austria) in 2001, collaborated with Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie (ZKM) (Germany) in 2005, and with Recombinant Media Labs (RML) (San Francisco) in 2007, and enjoyed great success with certain Marie Chouinard projects performed abroad (notably Body_Remix, which premiered at Le Biennale di Venezia, 2005).
